Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1

General Description of Cationic Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1h

Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1h is a quick-setting cationic asphalt emulsion designed to break and cure quickly when used as part of a micro-surfacing system.
Asphalt emulsions are classified according to the electric charge that surrounds the emulsion’s asphalt particles (i.e. whether it is a cationic or an anionic emulsion) and how quickly the suspended asphalt particles separate from the surrounding water (“breaking”). A quick-setting emulsion is one that will destabilize quickly when in contact with aggregate. The setting speed of any emulsion is relative to atmospheric conditions at the time of construction

PRODUCT FEATURES

  • Less aggregate loss due to greater asphalt adhesion and cohesion
  • Increased resistance to rutting and low-temperature cracking
  • Low susceptibility to moisture
  • Traffic can be restored very shortly after application.
  • Seals narrow cracks against moisture penetration
  • Prevents slippage plane between layers when used as a tack coat for micro-surfacing
  • Can be utilized as tack coat with a typical dilution ratio of 3 parts water to 1 part emulsion

RAHA Group asphalt emulsion CQS-1h is manufactured strictly as per ASTM D2397-13 AASHTO M208-16.

Application of Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1h

RAHA Group Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1h is a cationic asphalt emulsion designed for use in slurry seals and micro-surfacing projects. RAHA Group asphalt emulsions CQS-1h has a minimum 62% bitumen and it is chocolate brown in color and is a free-flowing liquid at ambient temperature. The slurry seal process mixes the emulsion, aggregate, and additives in a specially designed machine, which also places the mixture. The cationic emulsion is a chemically stabilized system, so care should be taken not to upset the chemical balance with contamination by chemicals, over-exposure to air, or adverse mechanical or thermal conditions.

RECOMMENDED USE

Asphalt Emulsion CQS-1h is specially designed to work with micro-surfacing systems must be formulated to have a minimum workability time of approximately 180 seconds to ensure proper field mixing and workability.
Also, RAHA Group Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1h are tailor-made as per the design and quality of site aggregates. Also, CQS-1h use in slurry mixtures for slurry paving projects and ready slurry mix in the drum. Asphalt Emulsion CQS-1h is a Latex Modified Emulsion and can also be used for Crack Seal / Fog Seal applications.

Recommended rate of application

The typical rate of application of RAHA Group Bitumen Emulsion CQS-1h for micro-surfacing and slurry seal is between 8 -10 % by weight of aggregates.

To ensure the best results

  • Use without diluting Bitumen Emulsion with any solvent or water
  • Use at ambient temperature
  • Roll the Bitumen Emulsion drums 5 times before using

Application Guidelines

  • Clean pavement surface prior to application.
  • Do not allow CQS-1h to either freeze or boil: it will break. Safe storage temperatures range from 10°C (50°F) to 85°C (185°F).
  • Do not apply if precipitation is anticipated.
  • Do not dilute the product with any cutter stock or water. However, water may be added during the micro-surfacing mixing process to obtain the appropriate consistency and workability.
  • The setting speed is relative because it is affected by atmospheric conditions at the time of construction.
  • Field adjustment to various components of the micro-surfacing mix and/or plant modifications can be made to suit varying field and aggregate conditions.
  • Emulsion content to be determined by a micro-surfacing mix design. Do not over dilute with water; maintain an application rate consistent with the mix design. The use of retarder vs the addition of excess water is recommended to control the breaking speed of a micro-surfacing system.

Safety and Handling CQS-1h

  • Contains petroleum distillate; flammable: keep away from open fire, sparks, or other ignition sources; wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles.
  • Fire flammable when wet, flash point 40°C.
  • Skin –avoid repeated or prolonged contact, if occurs remove with hand cleaner that removes oil or grease, then clean with soap and water.
  • Eyes contact could cause irritation, if contact occurs flush immediately with clean water Inhalation can cause dizziness, move immediately in fresh air if dizzy, and if breathing difficulty persists administer oxygen.
