Blown Asphalt 115/15

Description of Blown Asphalt 115/15

Blown Asphalt 115/15 is a semi-solid oxidized bitumen product of controlling the heating of penetration-grade bitumen and blowing hot air through it. The continuous or staggered blowing method shall be done to control the oil content and oxidize the material to achieve desired specifications. The grade designation, such as 115/15, indicates the midpoint of the softening point and penetration ranges.

Bitumen is oxidized from crude oil refining and is heated along with a catalyst and hot air until it becomes industrially usable. The most common uses of this product are roofing felts, waterproofing, anti-rust pipe coating, anti-slip layers, sound-dampening felts, automotive coatings, joint fillers, sealants, and bituminous mastics.

Blown Asphalt 115/15 is the class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons characterized by thermoplasticity, adhesiveness, and resistance against water, acids, and alkalis. RAHA Bitumen Co., utilizing its advanced technology to minimize risks involving high pressure and temperature in production, offers a patented process that rapidly increases the content of asphaltenes using additives in an asphalt emulsion system under ultrasonic conditions. This invention allows for gel-type asphalt, hazardous material encapsulation, and coating metal surfaces.

RAHA Bitumen Company is a leading manufacturer and exporter of all types of blown asphalt. The professional sales team does its utmost to meet customer needs with the highest quality products. For more information, please contact the sales team to place your orders.

Advantages of Blown Asphalt 115/15

Blown Asphalt 115/15, due to specific properties and controlled production processes, has many advantages. It has very high thermoplasticity, adhesiveness, and resistance to water, acids, and alkalis, thus finding wide applications in industry for waterproofing, roofing felts, anti-rust coatings, and sealants. Semi-solid and oxidized, it is durable and finds wide applications in construction and manufacturing, including sound-dampening felts and bituminous mastics.

Advanced production methods, such as the patented ultrasonic emulsion system by RAHA Bitumen Co., further enhance its quality and efficiency for a wide range of applications, from hazardous material encapsulation to protective metal coatings. It is a dependable and versatile material in many industries.

Storage & Handling

Heating of packaged bitumen is a sensitive process that should be well controlled to keep up with safety and quality issues of the product. The material is usually heated and melted at the site of use in boilers. Great care must be given to the maximum safe handling temperature of 230°C beyond which safety and changes in the characteristics of bitumen can be compromised due to its poor thermal conductivity.

To ensure uniform heat transfer, it is recommended that oxidized bitumen be shattered into smaller portions before placing it in a boiler. This increases the area of the surface exposed to the atmosphere and reduces hard heating at the bottom and sides. This could induce local overheating with the modification of some properties of the bitumen; it causes the thermal cracking, which releases low-flash vapors-the cause of an increased fire hazard irrespective of a flash point of bitumen.

Reheating of previously melted and cooled bitumen is not recommended, since the absence of adequate convection may cause nonuniform heat transfer, with resultant localized overheating and formation of pressurized pockets of low-flash vapors. The temperature-measuring devices also have to be installed with due care, since the low heat conductivity of bitumen may cause large differences between the measured temperature and the actual temperature near the heat source.

Refer to the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for specific health and safety practices. Careful handling and control during the heating phase are required to avoid risks and ensure the integrity of the bitumen.

Health & Safety of Blown Asphalt 115/15

Workers should wear protective masks, gloves, and goggles during application. The asphalt can be removed from equipment and tools with kerosene or gasoline. Care should be taken when heating Blown Asphalt 115/15 to avoid over heating
