Oxidized Bitumen 150/5

Oxidized Bitumen 150/5

Description of Oxidized Bitumen 150/5

Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 is produced by either Continuous or Staggered Blowing Process. Heated Penetration Grade Bitumen under controlled environment is blown with air which controls the Oil Content in the Bitumen while it oxidized. The different grades for suited applications produced are designated by two numbers to indicate the mid-points of their softening point and penetration ranges.

Blown Asphalt 150/5 is based on Petroleum bitumen which made by Blowing Bitumen 60/70 by hot air. Bitumen 150/5 means: softening point is 150°c and penetration is 15 desi millimeter is produced in compliance also conformity with ASTM standard. This type of bitumen is hard and fragile.

In addition, heating of hard bitumen oxide should be arranged via hot oil by circulation inside of the isolated jacket. Our Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 also provides in any grade.

RAHA Bitumen Co. is also capable of producing other grades of Oxidized Bitumen according to the specifications of individual clients. Some of the major advantages of Oxidized Bitumen are that it is completely water resistant, highly flexible and durable. Further, it is chemically very stable. Oxidized bitumen is a very flexible compound that is not only chemically stable but also a very durable compound apart from being completely water resistant. Lastly, Oxidized Bitumen has some very prominent technical advantages that makes it a very sought after compound in various applications.

Uses of Oxidized Bitumen 150/5

Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 is widely used as an anti-slip layer compound in the piling industry, for the manufacture of roofing felts, for sound dampening felts and under carriage sealant in the automobile industry, electric cable joint protection, joint filling compound, sealant compound and many others.

It’s using as raw material for Bitumen coat, roofing, insulation also in Isolation bitumen membrane sheet. Also Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 uses in chemical, fuel, paints, lacquers, varnishes, paper-pulp-board, textile processing. In road construction, pavement, crack seal and repairmen, civil works, roofing also construction. In addition, it uses for sealing and insulating buildings, adhesive, construction materials additive, dust-binding, coating. With the wide range uses in the insulating and impregnating agent, make rubber and plastic products.

The Bitumen 150/5 products are for paving, roofing. Also used in asphalt-based paints for corrosion protection of metals, inclining public works structures, adhesives in electrical laminates, base for synthetic turf. Typical uses for Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 also include roofing, pipe coating, Portland cement pavement, hydraulic applications, paint manufacturing.

Advantages of Oxidized Bitumen 150/5

One of the types of industrial bitumens produced through the oxidation process is oxidized bitumen 150/5, which is very popular in various applications due to its special characteristics. Bitumen in this grade has a high resistance to heat and adverse weather conditions, besides resistance to heat with good thermal stability and flexibility. Oxidized bitumen 150/5 is very suitable in the production of waterproof, insulation of roofs, and building infrastructures because of the hardness and high softening points. Also, this bitumen has very good adhesion and chemical resistance to corrosive agents, which are ideal for uses in coating and insulation industries.

Storage & Handling

Packaged bitumen is a crucial phase in most final uses, typically heated and melted in on-site boilers. Control at the heating phase is essential for health and safety, as well as product quality. The maximum safe handling temperature is 230 C, and it should not be abused. Bitumen is a poor heat conductor, so controlling the heating phase is crucial. Breaking up oxidized bitumen material before placement in the boiler exposes a larger surface area, promoting an even heating regime.

Aggressive heating at the base and sides may result in localized overheating, altering the characteristics of the RAHA modified bitumen and potentially causing thermal cracking and low flash vapors. Melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler and reheated from cold, as this could lead to localized overheating and a pressurized pocket of low flash vapors. Temperature monitoring or control devices should be placed carefully, as the poor thermal conductivity of bitumen can cause thermometer readings to be significantly different from the true temperature.

Health & Safety of Oxidized Bitumen 150/5

Workers should wear protective masks, gloves, and goggles during application. The asphalt can be removed from equipment and tools with kerosene or gasoline. Care should be taken when heating oxidized Bitumen 150/5 to avoid over heating
