What is a Bundle of Steel Angles?
A bundle of steel angles is a collection of individual steel angle pieces, all of the same size, length, and grade, stacked neatly and bound together for efficient handling. They are typically secured with heavy-duty steel strapping (also called banding).

Key Characteristics of a Bundle
When discussing a bundle, several key specifications define it:
1. Weight:
- This is the most common unit of measure for pricing and logistics.
- Bundles are typically created to a standard nominal weight, often ranging from 1 to 5 tons (2,000 to 10,000 lbs). The exact weight varies by the size of the angle and the mill’s practice.
2. Steel Grade:
- This defines the steel’s chemical composition and mechanical properties (strength, weldability, etc.). The most common grade is:
- ASTM A36: The workhorse of structural steel—a carbon steel with good strength and excellent formability and weldability.
- Other grades include ASTM A572 Grade 50 (higher strength) or ASTM A588 (weathering steel, also known as Corten).
Why Bundle Steel Angle Iran?
Bundling is done for several practical reasons:
- Efficiency: A forklift or overhead crane can move a 2-ton bundle in a single lift, which is vastly more efficient than moving hundreds of individual pieces.
- Stability and Safety: A tightly bound bundle is a stable, solid mass that is much safer and easier to secure on a flatbed truck for transport.
- Inventory Management: It’s easier to count 10 bundles than 2,000 individual pieces. Inventory is often tracked by the bundle.
- Protection: The angles on the inside of the bundle are protected from scratches, dings, and weather during shipping and storage.
Handling and Safety
Bundles of steel are extremely heavy and require proper procedures:
- Equipment: Always use a forklift, overhead crane, or other certified lifting equipment with a capacity greater than the bundle’s weight.
- PPE: Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots, hard hats, and heavy-duty gloves to protect from sharp edges and the banding.
- Cutting Straps: The steel straps are under high tension. Use long-handled band cutters and stand to the side, as the strap can whip with dangerous force when cut.
- Storage: Store bundles on a flat, level surface. Use wooden blocks (dunnage) to keep them off the ground to prevent moisture buildup and to allow space for forklift tines.
